Holiday season distracting your job search?

Now that the holiday season has officially started, are you having a hard time focusing on your job search? There are so many more distractions now…

  • How many emails did you receive sharing gratefulness on Thanksgiving?
  • Was your inbox inundated with emails shouting Black Friday sales or Cyber Monday deals?
  • What about your saved job searches, how many new jobs were emailed to you?
  • How many of each did you actually open, read and appreciate?
We get so much information via email, texts, Facebook and social media posts. How do you process it all? Do you go through your emails and ‘clean them up’ then go to Linkedin and see what you may have missed? Then go back around the communications carousel hoping your new job will magically appear?
  • Most people take one of three actions when opening their email accounts. Which one applies to you?

1. Overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of the ‘blah blah blahs’ they ignore the content, check the boxes and then click ‘delete all’.

2. Read each one and take into consideration how it could benefit them. Then, feel guilty because they wasted so much time going through ‘blah blah blah’.

3. Quickly scan their inboxes for the high points of interest. Then, either save for later or quickly read and respond.

If you’re in one of the first two categories, you’re not only overwhelmed; you’re using these distractions as methods for keeping busy. STOP! You’re killing your job search and hurting your productivity. You need help!

Coaching doesn’t only assist with the figuring out what to do next, the resume writing, the interviewing skills and the confidence building, it also helps with getting and staying organized, prioritizing and ultimately being accountable.
