Follow Your Heart… your dreams will come true!

Do what you love and love what you do

This is the season for love and romance… what about loving your career?

The most common statement I hear from people when they talk about making a career move is: “ I’m ready for a change, but I have no idea what I want to do next” .

And then after a brief chat, it’s followed up with these statements:

  • I definitely know what I don’t want to do…
  • I am afraid that what I  think  I want to do, I can’t because…
  • How do I know I’m making the right choice?

The thing is, most often they have a really good idea of what they want to do, BUT… They stop themselves with these underlying obstacles.

  • Fear,
  • Strong limiting beliefs (that support the fear),
  • Lack of self-confidence,
  • Over-thinking, and
  • Not getting enough factual information.

Do any of these resonate with you or someone you love? This is where I love helping people through these self-imposed limitations to maximize their self-esteem and to realize their potential.

These are some ways we get to work:

‘I know what I don’t want to do’  – This is actually a great starting point. So, we turn around what they don’t want into the opposite. For a simple example, I know I don’t want to be micro-managed. We turn it into – I want to have autonomy in my work… as an example.

‘I’m afraid I can’t because…’   – Oh, the I can’ts! I know it’s hard, but if it’s important, and you know it is, we reframe this too… ‘I can’t’ because whatever the reason, fill in the blank – we dismantle it and see what it would take to make it ‘I can…’ For example, I CAN with some changes in my schedule or I CAN with a shift in my mindset. Another example, if you think you can’t because of your age, we network and research to see how we can use it to your advantage. Or, if it’s I can’t because of my lack of training or education, we take the weight of what it really means to possibly level up in this area. What does it look like realistically?  Is there a risk involved, a sacrifice to be made? Is it at  all  possible? We figure it out and we commit. We decipher the ‘I can’t’ and then determine the next best course of action and take it!

How can I be sure it’s the right decision?   – We answer this with another question… How does it  feel ? If it feels a little scary but exciting, then you’re usually on the right journey. If it feels tiring and goes against your core values, then that would  not  be the path to take. Another question to ask is, how different would I feel compared to what I’m currently doing?!

Lastly, the easiest way to test the ‘right decision’ is  what does your heart say?  I love these quotes:

“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.”  Steve Jobs

“Follow your heart, love what you do.”  Winne the Pooh

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”  Luke 12:34

Sometimes you just need a little (self) love… a little focus, a little support, and a little encouragement to be brave enough to follow through on what you know  in your heart  you’d  love  to do! I can help with the fear, over-thinking, and negativity to get you to a career that you will  LOVE.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
